Haley crafts lovely paintings and hand-lettered art, and if you're lucky, you might find a small work from her in the upcoming Birthday Beauty Box! She has cutsey custom made works and makes tons of process videos showing the amazing steps she takes. We asked her some questions about her thoughts on life, bath products, feminism, and nerd culture
In your own words, how would you describe yourself and your work?
I have a sick obsession with letters and language and the endless ways in which they can be displayed. Everywhere I go, I see typography. It has been a fascination of mine from the moment I started learning about it, especially while pursuing my degree in graphic design - but it wasn't until I began practicing brush calligraphy a couple years ago that my obsession took on a whole new level. Letters can be so expressive even without saying very much at all and I love playing with how messages come across to viewers. Bold language, vibrant color .. all of these things, I use in abundance. I especially enjoy bringing together analog and digital methods, as there is nothing quite so special as being able to work with my hands
Why are you a feminist and what does that mean to you?
I am a feminist because I see no other choice. I am a feminist because I feel I have to be. I think that all people are capable of being feminists - some just may not know they can, or may reject what they think the label represents. As feminism has gone through its waves, I think we are currently riding a very interesting one with lots of nuance - and our roles as feminists, activists, people with a voice, are always changing. I am proud to be a part of it all.
